Why we built a quieter reading app.
For readers tired of streaks, social pressure, and gamified tracking. Kiveo is a quiet, personal reading companion.
At some point, tracking what you read became a performance. Reading apps started ranking you against friends, nudging you when you fell behind, turning pages into points. One of the quietest parts of your day became another place to keep up.
We know, because we felt it too.
The low hum of comparison when someone in your feed finishes their fortieth book of the year, and you’re still working through your third.
The want-to-read pile that stopped being a list and started being a weight. The sense that you were reading for the record instead of for the book.
None of that has anything to do with why you started reading.
We built Kiveo to make space for a different kind of reading life. Not a faster one. Not a more productive one. One that feels like yours again.
What we chose not to build.
No streaks to protect.
No counters ticking over your reading days, no warnings that something is about to expire. If life gets in the way, you just pick the book back up.
No social feeds.
We don’t show you what other people are reading, and we don’t ask you to perform for anyone. What you read, and how fast, stays between you and the book.
No gamification.
No points, badges, or levels. The book is the reward. Set a yearly goal if you like; we’ll never guilt you about it.
No profile of you.
Suggestions come from the books already on your shelf, not from your behavior. Your data stays yours, and it isn’t for sale.
What we built instead.
-
A library that knows where you are
Reading now, finished, set aside. Setting a book aside isn’t failure; some books just aren’t right for right now.
The library -
Sessions without homework
Start a session, read, stop when you stop. The log takes care of itself, and never asks why you missed a day.
How sessions work -
Quotes, gathered
The lines you’d otherwise lose to screenshots and note apps, kept in one place, attached to the book they came from.
Quotes & reflections -
The Nightstand
A short queue of seven books, the ones you’re actually reaching for next, so choosing your next read never means scrolling.
Why seven
A small team, building slowly.
Kiveo started because the reading apps we tried felt designed for someone else: someone who wanted social validation, competitive motivation, another dashboard to optimize.
We wanted something quieter. A companion that does its job and gets out of the way; less a productivity tool, more a well-worn notebook kept by your chair.
That’s what we’re building. Slowly, carefully, one update at a time.
